Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site features a reconstructed 1840s adobe fur trading post on the Mountain Branch of the Santa Fe Trail, where traders, trappers, travelers and tribes came together on peaceful terms for trade. Today, operated by the National Park Service, living historians recreate the sights, sounds, and smells of the past with guided tours, demonstrations, and special events. Also a one and a half mile hiking trail follows along the Arkansas River.
Open daily, year-round, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day. 9 am – 4 pm, mid-September – mid-May; 8 am to 5:30 pm, late May to early September.
